Long time coming

It's amazing how once finals week comes along stuff miraculously comes together. This landspeeder has been a long time coming, and I'm proud to say that it is finally finished. The speeder was a term long project (yikes), while the landscape took a little over a day to layout. The landscape is actually a displacement map of a sketch I drew a while ago, and then bone heat was used to accentuate and mellow out the cliffs. The textures for both the speeder and the landscape are different pictures of rust and other such oxidization. When I redo this project, I want to change the landscape's color to prevent the speeder from fading in and taking away from the intense action.
Although this is a low budget knock off of a saga that I love to high heaven, I have to start somewhere. The animation took around 8 hours give or take to render, and was split between seven different computers to get the job done that quickly. What blows my mind is that 8 hours equates a little under 40 seconds! The sweet render combined with sweet Doug style sound effects brings the piece together quite well.

Array final

Abstract work is like going to the dentist. It may hurt at first, but it is better for you in the long run. I love to incorporate abstract shapes into drawings, but learning to control shapes within Blender is a well-met challenge,
I like this piece for many reasons: the color palette fits well, there is a star wars section in the music, and most of the camera work is spot on. However the shape shifting squares speak beyond their dimensions, creating living anamorphic shapes, as well as rigid mountainous spires.
The end is somewhat jumbled, however I did not spend so much time animating the scene to not use what I made. The music is choppy at some parts, however I feel a final final draft coming on...
All in all this is not a bad first project. I have set the bar high for future animations, but that is definitely an accomplishment, considering my abstract project difficulty in the past. Njoy or Xspire!!!
