Long time coming

It's amazing how once finals week comes along stuff miraculously comes together. This landspeeder has been a long time coming, and I'm proud to say that it is finally finished. The speeder was a term long project (yikes), while the landscape took a little over a day to layout. The landscape is actually a displacement map of a sketch I drew a while ago, and then bone heat was used to accentuate and mellow out the cliffs. The textures for both the speeder and the landscape are different pictures of rust and other such oxidization. When I redo this project, I want to change the landscape's color to prevent the speeder from fading in and taking away from the intense action.
Although this is a low budget knock off of a saga that I love to high heaven, I have to start somewhere. The animation took around 8 hours give or take to render, and was split between seven different computers to get the job done that quickly. What blows my mind is that 8 hours equates a little under 40 seconds! The sweet render combined with sweet Doug style sound effects brings the piece together quite well.

Mind Map

Stories are the focus point for my entire life. Who could have guessed?

Array final

Abstract work is like going to the dentist. It may hurt at first, but it is better for you in the long run. I love to incorporate abstract shapes into drawings, but learning to control shapes within Blender is a well-met challenge,
I like this piece for many reasons: the color palette fits well, there is a star wars section in the music, and most of the camera work is spot on. However the shape shifting squares speak beyond their dimensions, creating living anamorphic shapes, as well as rigid mountainous spires.
The end is somewhat jumbled, however I did not spend so much time animating the scene to not use what I made. The music is choppy at some parts, however I feel a final final draft coming on...
All in all this is not a bad first project. I have set the bar high for future animations, but that is definitely an accomplishment, considering my abstract project difficulty in the past. Njoy or Xspire!!!

Glasses_final

Imagine being able to view thoughts over again. Through Brainwave resonance nodes placed on the forehead, Glauben Glasses record the inner eye's view of whomever puts on the hardware. The lenses can be used to review previously recorded thought records, or separate images may  shine through the lenses, while the pineal gland recorder simultaneously sucks up inner-lobe info. For instance in a murder case, images of crime scenes and evidence would appear in front of the eyes of whoever is being questioned. Since the mind subconsciously stores infinite amounts of tiny information, the court could accurately determine who is guilty and who is not, by linking stored  memories to the evidence. The possibilities can be daunting. If worn at night, dreams may be analyzed in the morning. If someone experiences schizophrenic  visions, Glauben Glasses may affirm and help assess the extent of the mind disorder. However amazing these possibilities for good may be, there will always be those who abuse technology. Stealing others ideas, memory blackmail, even accusing someone of a thought that has not been enacted are just a few of the many ways Glauben Glasses could be misused.

Every so few projects I will completely forget to save until the very end. Incidentally the program will close and all my work will be forfeit. This time around, thankfully, I remembered to save periodically. Unwrapping is so frustrating if you do not mark your seams properly, but I did a decent job.

Mandala_final

It's amazing how two days of work will change a project. Complete Metamorphosis.

Final_mandala

Every term there is one project that completely leaves me stumped. I start off with an idea, and somehow it morphs into something completely different. This is that project. The funny part is that I spent hours on it, only to change the whole thing, at the very last minute. Surprisingly a good nights sleep has let it settle in, and it doesn't look to bad. The hardest part with computer art is taking what you can draw with your hand and translating that digitally. Guess I need some time with the computer.

Prisoner Escort

The great Helion Prison. Completely isolated and elevated, the complex is one hell of a correctional facility. Upon arrival, inmates are fitted with magnetic restrainers, stripped of everything except the last suit they will ever wear. Unable to fight back, inmates are strung up by the newly implanted magnets, and literally drug through the panopticon prison. No one that goes in comes out, encased in a mobile machine, erased for all eternity.

The Red Rocket Legion roams throughout deep space. Keepers of interstellar order, they roam the galaxy with an iron fist, waiting and ready to answer the call.

The_Lost_Relic

The first video game system I ever owned was an original Gameboy. At the time it weighed twice as much as I did, the buttons required an entire palm to engage, and I loved it. Luckily old toys have a way of creeping back into your life, in this case from a roommate's old collection. For knowing just the basics of the program, I am very pleased with the product. The coloring, and lighting bring a dull piece of plastic to new light. Enjoi er Dye...!

Sith_Lords

The galaxy has molded and mended for centuries; only to be unraveled by the Dark Lords of the Sith. From Naga Sadow to Darth Krayt, these six Sith masters have flipped the galaxy upside down. From destroying star clusters to cheating death, "unnatural" powers are meant to be used not lost. Anything and everything is expendable to the Sith, but thankfully I have trapped them in this cube holocron, for now...

Week two starts off like clockwork. Materials is the name of the game, the target: the cube. Thankfully Maya is so similar to Blender that adjusting is not a problem, for now...

Screwy_screwdriver

Screwdrivers are simple tools, so why not try to design something simple within the Blender right? Wrong! Screwdrivers are not easy, yet. The tip of the driver is a little rounded, but you wouldn't know that unless you are reading this post right not. I do dig the transparency of the handle though. Above all this was a good first true tutorial to fire up the neurons.

3D_Digital_Ersten_Tag

Blender reminds me a lot of maya, thankfully, so getting started was purdy EZ. Hopefully the object is easily recognizable as an axe of some sort. My favorite part is the red-ribbed handle. My least favorite part is the blade itself, just because it looks funky. Not too bad for a first attempt.
